Blue – Blue have the calming effect. Ice, cold, chilling.
Red, orange – Red is the hottest of the warm colour. Hot, flame, heat.
Red Cross symbol – Aid/awareness is needed.
This symbol’s aim is to create awareness towards people for the increasing rise of the global temperature, as represented by the red Flame. The red Flame is hot, therefore it causes the Icebergs/Glaciers to melt tremendously (represented by the blue Iceberg).
The continuously melting of ice in the northpole brings forth several adverse effects to our environment in the long run. This is why the Red Cross symbol is added to create awareness for human being.
Hopefully, this symbol could alert people to lessen the usage of CFC (ChloroFluoroCarbon) . This gas causes the ozone layer to become thinner and the unfiltered ultraviolet rays of the sun cause overheating in the northpoles of the earth, where the Icebergs start to melt. This causes huge amount of water released from the poles leads to a rise in the sea-level. Eventually, sea will cover the land and this will be the end of the world.
Now~ I'll post some explanation for what I've done so far..
Using Pen Tool, I drew some curves lines for my Flame, since pen tool is perfect for drawing curve lines ;)
Still using Pen Tool, I drew the Iceberg.(No curves for my Iceberg)
Some minor editing to my Iceberg.
Added some bolder outline for my Iceberg. Actually the outline is just a bigger size of the Iceberg behind, coloured with BLACK colour. Thats is what I've done to make the bolder outline.
Now the colouring part... Used Gradient Tool for my Flame.
Drew some random shapes inside my Iceberg to create the "3D" effect.(No Gradient Tool used)
Same concept towards my Cracked Ice Floor.
Created the Red Cross and coloured.
With some arranging and editing... Here's the final Symbol.
All set~
The North Pole
So cold... brrr...
The northernmost point on the earth's surface is the geographic North Pole, also known as true north. It's located at 90° North latitude and all lines of longitude converge at the pole. North Pole is about 450 miles (725 km) north of Greenland in the middle of the Arctic Ocean - the sea there has a depth of 13,410 feet (4087 meters).
If you're standing at the North Pole, all points are south of you (east and west have no bearing). Since the earth's rotation takes place once every 24 hours, if you're at the North Pole your speed of rotation is quite slow at almost no speed at all, compared to the speed at the equator at about 1,038 miles per hour. - about.com
P/S - The North Pole is often credited as having snow but it is actually snowless. =)
Arctic Animals
So cute..
Animals that live in the Arctic (either full time or seasonally) are adapted to extreme conditions. Many animals who overwinter in the Arctic (like the Arctic fox and the ermine) have a coat that thickens and changes color to white during the winter as camouflage in the snow (blending into the background is called cryptic coloration).
Some animals hibernate during the cold season; they go into a very deep, sleep-like state in which their heartbeat slows down. These animals often hibernate in an underground burrow or pit. Some hibernators include skunks, chipmunks, and some bears (but these bears are not true hibernators, they go into a state that is closer to a normal deep sleep).
Many animals (like the Arctic tern) spend the summer months in the Arctic, but leave as the weather turns frigid and food becomes scarce (these animals return again the next summer, repeating this pattern year after year). This behavior is called migrating.
Global Warming
What is Global Warming?
Carbon dioxide and other gases warm the surface of the planet naturally by trapping solar heat in the atmosphere. This is a good thing because it keeps our planet habitable. However, by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil and clearing forests we have dramatically increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere and temperatures are rising.
The vast majority of scientists agree that global warming is real, it’s already happening and that it is the result of our activities and not a natural occurrence.1 The evidence is overwhelming and undeniable.
We’re already seeing changes. Glaciers are melting, plants and animals are being forced from their habitat, and the number of severe storms and droughts is increasing.
Effect towards the North Pole
The sea ice at the North Pole is typically around two or three meters thick, though there is considerable variation and occasionally the movement of floes exposes clear water. Studies have suggested that the average ice thickness has decreased in recent years due to global warming, though this conclusion is disputed by some. Reports have also predicted that within a few decades the Arctic Ocean will be entirely free of ice in the summer months.
Mark Serreze, a scientist with the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado, told Agence France-Presse in an interview on June 27, 2008, that by the end of the 2008 summer, there might, for the first time in human history, briefly be no ice at the North Pole. However, Serreze pointed out that ice would still be present in other parts of the Arctic Ocean. - Wikipedia
