Finally, i have done my assignment 3 for my CG. This poster's aim is to create awareness for people toward the global warming issues that will affect the melting of polar ice caps.
The meaning of my title, it's moving silently, is because every minute from now, the icebergs in the north pole is melting inches by inches away. This is because of the causes of global warming. The ice floor in the north pole started to crack and large icebergs can be seen floating miles and miles away from the north pole. These cracked icebergs is causing the sea level to raise can causes natural disasters like flood to our city. If this scenario continues, our land will be covered by sea, there will be no place for us to live, this will be the end of the world...
I hope that my poster will alert others and provide critical messages about global warming, thus letting them know how importance it is to plant more trees and lessen the usage of CFC to prevent the ozone to become thinner. This may prevent or prolong the time to reach our "doomsday".
1st step - I choose an A3 size layout for my poster. Then i draw a smaller border so that it won't use up whole A3 size board and will look nicer and more neat.
2nd step - This is the reference is choose. It is actually a cracked bottle. The reason why i choose this bottle is because i need to draw the cracks to represent the cracked ice floor for my poster. As usual, i used the Pentool to trace the cracks.
3rd step - This is the finishing of my trace. Minor editing by using the direct selection tool.
4th step - Next, i color it by using the Eyedropper tool. This is because i can choose the exact color on the bottle since the color of the bottle suit my blue poster theme.
5th step - Added a lighter blue for my background. i also re-color it by adjusting the opacity so that it won't be too contrast.
6th step - This part, i added some white color to make it more realistic.
7th step - I added shadow for the ice to make it more 3D. Actually is very simple, all you have to do is to draw the shape of the shadow you want, then by using the same color, just change the transparency to "multiple" and adjust the opacity =)
8th step - Another reference for my poster.
9th step - same as before, i used pentool t trace the ice.
10th step - Colored the ice. nothing much here.
11th step - finally, my background is done. this is actually the outcome of what i did just now.
12th step - next, i draw another smaller border inside. in this part, i used mainly the rectangle tool and the line segment tool. the rectangle tool i used it to make the background for my title and my description so that it will look more visible. line segment tool to draw some lines. for the font for my title and description, i used Letter Gothic STD and Segoe Print.
13th step - Finally, the last part, i added some extra description to alert my viewers. Letter Gothic STD for my font. The reason i don't use clipping mask is to in-case when i did something wrong, i can make some correction.
Extra info -
- used blue theme for my poster - cold, chilling, icy, represent ice
- used orange color to highlight some important words - orange and blue are complementary color, so it will look more contrast.
- white boxes and lines - some simple design for my poster, to make it look more attractive, wont feel bored looking at it.
Assignment 3 Title:
Project Start Date:August 19, 2008
Projected Finish Date: September 9, 2008.
Project Manager:Seah Zhe Ming
HP:016-9155 955
Email:zming_415@hotmail.com
Project Objectives:
To alert people about the danger of global warming towards northpole and what will be affected.
Approach:
The title for my assignment 3 is "it's moving silently" same as the title for my assignment 2. The title represent the the icebergs in the northpole is melting slowly throughout the days and unnoticed by us.
What i plan for my poster in assignment 3 is to create a blue color theme for my poster. A map-like poster. Cracked ice floor for my poster background and melted ice from the top of my poster. I will be adding some short description into my poster.
I'll be using some common tool such as pentool, eyedropper tool, selection tool, direct selection tool, hand tool and zoom tool. There will some others to be use for my assignment but that i'll explain later in my process of creating my poster.
Finally post it on my CG blog.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Week 10 - Sketch.
Week 11 - In the process of doing my assignment.
Week 12 - Print and submit my work.
Comment:
Improve my CG knowledge =)
First, I open 1 of the reference I posted previously. Adjusted a bit to fit in A3 size paper.
I started tracing the reference slowly by using Pen Tool.
Finish tracing my reference.
Then I start to color.
After finish coloring, the outline is removed so that it'll look nicer.
After that, I applied some filter using Filter Gallery. In this case, I choose the Cutout filter on my reference picture.
This is the effect after I applied the filter, it look much more better compared to the image just now.
Finally, I added my symbol...
Blue – Blue have the calming effect. Ice, cold, chilling.
Red, orange – Red is the hottest of the warm colour. Hot, flame, heat.
Red Cross symbol – Aid/awareness is needed.
This symbol’s aim is to create awareness towards people for the increasing rise of the global temperature, as represented by the red Flame. The red Flame is hot, therefore it causes the Icebergs/Glaciers to melt tremendously (represented by the blue Iceberg).
The continuously melting of ice in the northpole brings forth several adverse effects to our environment in the long run. This is why the Red Cross symbol is added to create awareness for human being.
Hopefully, this symbol could alert people to lessen the usage of CFC (ChloroFluoroCarbon) . This gas causes the ozone layer to become thinner and the unfiltered ultraviolet rays of the sun cause overheating in the northpoles of the earth, where the Icebergs start to melt. This causes huge amount of water released from the poles leads to a rise in the sea-level. Eventually, sea will cover the land and this will be the end of the world.
Now~ I'll post some explanation for what I've done so far..
Using Pen Tool, I drew some curves lines for my Flame, since pen tool is perfect for drawing curve lines ;)
Still using Pen Tool, I drew the Iceberg.(No curves for my Iceberg)
Some minor editing to my Iceberg.
Added some bolder outline for my Iceberg. Actually the outline is just a bigger size of the Iceberg behind, coloured with BLACK colour. Thats is what I've done to make the bolder outline.
Now the colouring part... Used Gradient Tool for my Flame.
Drew some random shapes inside my Iceberg to create the "3D" effect.(No Gradient Tool used)
Same concept towards my Cracked Ice Floor.
Created the Red Cross and coloured.
With some arranging and editing... Here's the final Symbol.
All set~
